Parts for 252?
Posted by dennyblock on Tuesday, March 20, 2007 5:55 PM
Just picked up a prewar 252 and need a brushplate and 2 geared wheels. I tried Olsen's and George Tebolt but can't really identify what I need. Seems without part numbers I'm out of luck.Anyone know of a dealer whos website has pictures or lists by engine number?Heres a photo of what it may someday look like and one of the brushplate which has a very worn armature hole.

Do the gears come off these wheels? I can't find any photos with gears. Think if I solder in the hole on the brushplate and drill it to size will work? Thanks

Denny,

I think that the gear is part of the wheel.  Personally, I wouldn't try to fix the brushplate.  I don't think it is worth taking the chance of the repair necking down the armature shaft.  Call Jeff at The Train Tender, I am sure he can help.  He is the only person I buy parts from now.

Maybe I misunderstood, but here is the link for the 252 motor parts list on the Olsen's Toy website (http://pictures.olsenstoy.com/searchcd31.htm?itm=769).  I'll search today for a picture breakdown of the actual motor.  I thought I had one.  I sold my 252 several years ago.  Another person to contact is Gary Scheindili.  He regularly restores and offers on Ebay prewar items.  He is very knowledgeable and helpful.  In fact, he has a restored 252 up for auction on Ebay right now (http://cgi.ebay.com/Lionel-prewar-252-Orange-T-Cotta-Brass-Loco-Beauty_W0QQitemZ180098105707QQcategoryZ4145QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem).  Hope this helps.

Take Care......RJ (TCA 07-61869)

Is the armature supported by the metal plate or the fiber plate riveted to it?  Is this motor called O super motor? Long live tinplate!
