Well if a person likes American Flyer items and has $1,100 to spend to support his hobby, I say good for him!  No reason at all why some Flyer items shouldn't command premium prices like Lionel, Ives, Boucher, Hafner, Carlisle & Finch, Marklin, Marx, and other classic brands in the toy train hobby.

I tend to agree. My resources are extremely limited and I marvel, while reading this forum's posts, at the ability of some train people to amass huge numbers of items.  It's not unlike any other hobby when it comes to spending.

Reading through the seller's feedback, I don't think I'd have given him my $1100, he seems to be having some issues; sure its 98.7%, but those negs are all about the same things; shipping and service, not good IMO.

As for the $1100 for a box car, well like I said in the other thread, its worth what someone will pay for it.  But, something tells me that if I paid that much for it, then my wife would be telling me to sleep in it.

When I was looking for a Lionel train set I checked on ebay as well as many online dealers to find the best price. While on ebay I typed in Lionel  train set and got many replies, I clicked on one that said mint 50 year old train set so I looked at it and it was  for the Lionel shipping box only that the train set came in. Bid was over $250 for an empty brown box with the Lionel name on it.

The term, "A fool and his money are soon parted" comes to mind.

That car garners that kinda price.

I sold one a couple of years ago on Ebay for $ 700.00,without a box.

American Flyer production never got to the numbers like Lionel and Marx. And some A.F. pieces are very hard to come across.

Not being a collector, the only box car I'd consider giving that much for would be full size, less trucks, couplers and brake hardware, FOB a block foundation in my yard.  Add electricity and it would make a good layout space.
