Tethering a tender

Hi,

In a previous post someone mentioned having to tether a post war tender to the locomotive when using Gargraves track. Why does this need to be done? And how do I do it?

This is a hard one to understand. Any tender would be tethered to the engine on any type of track. The one thing about Gargraves track is that the two outside rails are insulated from one another.

Maybe the mention was in the context of smaller locos like the 0-4-0 switchers, when using extended sections of isolated/insulated outside rails with GarGraves.  The ground to the engine chassis may not be all that good with one of the rails insulated for signal or other control functions.  A ground tether may help improve the circuit to the engine.
