Car Types - Thrall
Posted by cheech on Tuesday, February 20, 2007 4:21 PM

What is a Thrall car? I see it listed with the DTTX well cars. Sometimes these intermodal cars are listed as Gunderson and sometimes Thrall? is there a descernable difference?

 thanks

Thrall and Gunderson are car manufacturers.  Thrall is now part of Trinity Industries:

Gunderson is part of the Greenbrier companies:

Thrall Car produced the Budd designed Lo-Pac Intermodal Well Cars. They have external ribs.

Gunderson produces the Maxi-Stack and Husky-Stack intermodal Well Cars. They have smoothly contoured exteriors.

DTTX is a designation used by the Trailer Train Company that became the TTX Company.

DTTX is their classification for intermodal well cars.
