Hot Wheels custom cruisers
Posted by pbjwilson on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 7:46 AM

I may be way behind the times here, but I just saw some great Hot Wheels cars at Target the other day. They arent the small Hot Wheels. These appear to be close to 1/48 scale. The cars were early 60's, slightly customized, with modern big wheels. What really got my attention was the nice finish on these. Anyone else see these or buy them? Would look nice outside a diner or drive-in. Oh, and the price was right, $2.99.

Bought some at Walmart a few months ago.  They do look neat, but certainly not the Hi-Rail 1949 look I was going for.  I plan on trying a small "fun" section to put these in.  They are done well.

I have also seen these bigger Hot Wheels and thought they were pretty cool.  I would be curious as to their scale.  Target has a pretty big Hot Wheels/Matchbox section.  Now that our son is over 3, going to Target is a lot more fun that it used to be.  Every trip there includes a stop in the toy department...

I've seen them, but they're a little new for me. I buy every 1930s/1940s car I see in the toy aisles, even if it's a 1:64 or even smaller. I think I find about six in a good year.

I don't imagine the oldies like that are very good sellers, otherwise they'd probably be more common.

Geez, Paul, ya beat me to it.  I purchased a G-Machine '08 Challenger and it fits the layout!  I even put it on my PRR flat car.  If I can find more of 'em, I'll get some, but the WalMart is running low....a trip to Target may be needed!  I also found some "under glass" before Christmas (a little showcase, the car attached with a screw) & bought a '57 Chrysler 300E Convertible.  Looked great on the Christmas layout. Maisto, I think.

I have been collecting 40's and 50's autos in 1:64th and am now finding various scales between 1:64 and 1:43 even at thrift stores but you have to look hard for them. the best deal yet that I have found is two pickups close to O scale on a card for $1.00 they were not very specific to make but looked like a modern ford and an old chevy at one of the dollar stores.

Hadn't seen those yet but they sound a lot like the Matchbox Super Kings. The Super Kings originally came out in the 70s but recently have been re released....very cool cars.

Dave, I found a old 47 Ford that had a kit with it to make it into a street rod.  It is great because it has a bunch of extra parts and a buffing wheel that works off battery.  Again, a WalMart find.  It is also 1/48th scale.

I remember the SuperKings as most came with figures and or accessories I would look at them in the matchbox catolog/checklist as a kid.

CSXect The new ones I've seen are just the car. I got one at WalMart about two years ago. I think it was about $7.00....but well worth it!

Ooh... Is this a recent find, Dennis? Extra parts would definitely be good for other projects too.

Been a few months, but I will check to see if they have any more.  I was thinking of picking up some more as well.  I will also check the package to see the maker/other vendors.

Target had also advertised die cast planes in 1:48 scale but I can't find them around here in Pa.  I'm looking for a F-86.

Cool! You don't usually see planes in the larger scales. Seems the biggest I usually find are around 1:87.
