G SCALE DO'S AND DON'TS WHEN USING SWITCH TRACKS ON GRADES
Posted by choo-choo rick on Sunday, February 4, 2007 12:28 AM

    Hello All,

I would like some advice about using switch tracks on both a assending grade  and a desending grade of 3 1/2 % or less. Do I have to level the area of where I want to place the switch track. If any one can give me some help on the do's n dont's on the use of swich tracks for passing sidings or laying out more track from the main line to the other part of the yard and back.

Thanks Again,  Choo Coo Rick Manalia....LA Crescenta,CA.

I think you would be far better off asking this question on the "Garden Railways" forum on this same Kalmbach website.  You'll find most of the Large Scale enthusiasts over there, along with most of the experience in that scale.

My guess, though, is that they'll recommend NOT installing switches on grades, for a variety of reasons--the most important of which is reliable and consistent operation of the switch machine itself.
