Modern Era repair manual

I am interested in the Greenberg's Modern Era Lionel repair manual.  I have tried to locate one on line as these have been out of print for some time now.  If anyone has one they would be willing to sell....let's talk.  On a bigger note, if there is enough of a demand, perhaps we can convince Kalmbach to publish another run.  Is anyone else interested in one of these?

I think I can say that we'll probably never run it again.

But the good news is that much (not all, but a lot) of the exploded diagrams for modern era Lionel stuff is on the Lionel website.

Click customer service, then you have two paths - Parts Lists and Pictorial Diagrams or Owner's Manuals.

   From the sounds of it, this may be a very rare item to locate.  I am always discourged when I hear items will not reprinted.  THE HUNT begins!!  There must be a stack of these lying around somewhere??    Granpa

Bob, Tis a shame.  I have used the Lionel customer service route with the diagrams, but in some cases, it is not very user friendly, and also it does not have the repair information.  I atune this to looking at the Post War Diagrams on Olsen's site to reading the Postwar repair manual that y'all have.  While the diagrams are very usefull, they only get you so far.  I believe that if a current or re-release of the Modern Era manual were made available, it would quickly sell as there are a lot of these pieces out there.  I believe the current industry attitude is that there are plenty of folks out here who have worked through most of the problems and that we can either help each other, or bring the item to a service center.

Are we talking about "Greenberg's Fundimensions Operating and Repair Manual" by Stan Shantar?  If so, there are several copies at reasonable prices on Abebooks.

Dennis, set up a search on e-bay.  I found the Greenberg Guides that way though it took a while and a couple of being outbids.  I've also had good luck with Amazon for other than train books, but who knows.

Thanks Bob, but that is not the one I was talking about.  I have the Shantar book, but the one I was speaking of is the one that is similar to the Greenberg's Post War Lionel 1945-1969, only for the period of 1970 to I believe 199?.  Dr. Tinker's web site suggests this book and also mentions his efforts to get Kalmbach to reprint it.  I am sure that it would be very usefull to those of us who prefere to do our own work.

I Googled the ISBN (0897782852) and got numerous hits at reasonable prices.

I bought mine a couple years ago at Hobby Haven in Des Moines, Iowa. As of last fall they still had 2 left, and were selling for the price marked on the book. They may still have them. It might be worth a call. They have an internet site, and advertise in CTT, if I'm not mistaken. I don't have the number right off hand.

Be aware that this book is not like the postwar one. Very little in the way of text. Mainly just diagrams and part numbers, not much service info.

I just tried to check out The Greenberg Modern Era Manual from my local library.  It's there!!  But it is a valued reference and I can't bring it home.  So,..  check out your local library and you just might come across one.

I have found that at my library that if enough people search or request a title they will go out and aquire it. The train books and videos have doubled opf lately.

A lot of libraries are having problems with books with high resale value being checked out, never to return. At least it's available there, and presumably if there were a section you needed, they'd let you photocopy it?

I think that's what happened to my local library's copy of A.C. Gilbert's autobiography. :(

I am picking up a copy of Dick Teal's book : "Modern Toy Train Repair and Maintenance" this  afternoon at B&N. It was recommended by a fellow O-gauger but I haven't checked it out yet.

I believe it is available from Kalambach, Amazon,etc. It was convienent for me to get it at B&N.
