in my hand right now is two lionel locomotives. they are 2-4-2 pennsylvania 8203, and wisconsin central 4-4-2 #3548. the 3548 came with a boxcar, condola, and caboose. i got it at the baxter, minnesota menards for $89.95 on sale. can any one tell me the exact sale price of this set at a hoby store? the pennsylvania 8203 is a locomotve that came with a b&o boxcar, cn coal hopper, up flat, cb&q gondola, a blue gondola, a erie box car, and a penn central caboose. this set i found in a dumpster at my local threshing show. the locomotive needed a good cleaning and lubing. can anyone tell me when lionel made this set and how much it is worth. these are not for sale i am just curious. thank you bigboy
have safe and happy steam season

The locomotive came in the 1183 Silver Star set (1971-72).  Although set content varied somewhat, it included a CN hopper('72), a UP flat car, a gondola, and a PC caboose.  No boxcars were in the set.  Value in new condition is no more than $80.

The WC set probably was made specifically for Menard's and, therefore, would not have been available at a hobby store.  The Pennsyvania Flyer (http://www.lionel.com/Products/Catalogs/Catalog.cfm?CatalogUID=A1D98741-B8B4-F5A5-9867DF780CEE5190&PageID=843 ) might be comparable, assuming the 3548 tender includes an air whistle.

I am using the Greenberg's pocket price guide to get a year and price for the locomotives and according to Greenberg's your Lionel # 8203 was made during 1972, 74 & 75, value around $30.00 for excellant condition.  The 3548 is not listed in Greenberg's, maybe the number is differant. Any way the pocket price guide don't list sets just pieces by number and locomotives with most common tender combinations.   For me to give a more accurate value you will need to give the numbers on each car.
