Logs

Does anyone know what logs are correct for a PW 364 log loader?  I have seen two different types available.  One type is part# 164-64, and the other is part# 3361-21.  Which type do I need?

In the Greenbergh's book, the 164-64 lumber (set of 5) (logs) is part of the 3461 operating lumber car, I do not show any lumber (logs) with the log loader.

If they look like wood dowels and you know the diameter try buying a length of dowel and cut the lengths you need.  I'm sure it'll be a lot cheaper than buying the Lionel part.

        I tried the 164-64 logs, and they have trouble on the lower portion of the belt.  It seems like they don't want to stick to the belt.  The belt doesn't slip, and all of the rollers turn freely.  I have no idea why the logs are acting this way.

Jim,

The loader should be level.  I assume it is.

Second, the origional conveyor belt should be red fabric.

The 164-64 logs come with the recommended car (3461) to be used with the loader, as recommended by the Greenberg's repair manual.

Perhaps other's that are more knowlegeable than I will be able to provide additional information.

I have used a three eights diameter dowel rod and it works great, just cut to length.

         I replaced the belt with a repro because the old belt was stretched.  The loader behaves the same when it is level.

        Thanks for the tip about 3/8" dowel.  I just made about 50 of the 164-64 logs from poplar 7/16" dowel stock.  They are the ones that give me trouble.  I tried original 164-64 logs, and they weren't much better.  The new logs I made were the same diameter and length as the originals( dia.= 7/16" , length = 4 5/8").  I will check to see if I have any 3/8" stock, I might have to buy some.
