Docksider Whistle improvement
Posted by Santa Fe Kent on Monday, December 25, 2006 3:42 PM

I finally got a Docksider for Christmas! And it's been worth the wait..... It's quite the little Brute! It's not only heavy, but the nice details seem pretty rugged, and it's a smooth runner as well. The whistle was pretty loud and shrill, a little too much for my small train room. Fortunately, the speaker is easy locate under a grid of holes at the frame bottom. The easy thing to try was tape.... I found the Duct tape that I use for all my house and vehicle repairs, and voila; problem fixed again! One square piece covering all the holes did the trick. And it even seems to sound a little better..... I like the whistle now! Back to the train room now.....

I take it from your post that there is not a volume control on the Docksider.  I have a Docksider on my list of desired locomotives for this next year and the CTT Forum  is where I have learned the idiosyncrasies of many pieces of equipment and needless to say it seems that every engines has something.

Correct, no volume control. But with the tape added, it's not real loud. In fact, on Fastrack, the whistle is not much louder than the running noise with a few added cars!

Two more questions:Smile [:)]

How does the Docksider do on a grade?

What do you think of its pulling capacity?

Thanks,

I've had my Docksider pull mixed freight of postwar and modern about 8 cars or so up a 4% grade. Pulls it easily.
