In 1990, I purchased a Rivarossi 4-6-4 Hudson (gray 20th Century Limited). The motor, which was never very good, died. I love the engine and decided to make my first attempt at replacing the motor. I replaced it a quality Cannon can motor. Step 1 - disassemble locomotive and remove motor (good). Step 2 - replace motor - test with jumper leads - motor is perfect (how hard can this be). Step 3 using original diagram (in Italian) reassemble. Problemo...
Diagram does no show wiring or how the loco pickup and tender pickup work. Also when I connect the only two wires, I can find inside the chassie, to the motor and then to the two test leads, the motor speed is reduced dramatically. Remove the two black loco wires from the motor and test again and the motor runs fine. I only see two black wires under the chassie to hook the motor mounts (they also power the light when I touch them to the test leads). Should there be more wires. I do no see how the motor picks up current from the tender.
Frustrated, I really would like to save this loco. Can anyone provide me directions on how to reassembly the Rivarossi 4-6-4 Hudson, now that the new motor is working.
Thanks

HO, right? You'll have a better chance over on the Model Railroader forum. We're mostly into O and S scale toy trains here. Good luck!
