I'm thinking of building Elevated trestles for my layout. Just curious what material I should use, and where I could get it. I was thinking some sort of foam but now sure how the track would fasten to it. Preferably stuff I could get at the home depot, or art supply store.
Well L-2986, gonna need a litlle more info on what you are trying to accomplish.
Are you wanting to use timber or steel trestles? Are you trying to crossover a scene or other tracks?
The real railroads use fill to gain elevation before they have to span whatever chasm they are passing over. I'd suggest jigsawing out plywood and using risers to get to the desired height, and then placing your trestles in place.
If you are determined to use styrofoam, Woodland Scenics has a graduated foam riser set. If the tracks are going to be there permanently, liquid nails and a caulking gun will make short work of your project.
