My husband found his old Athearn train set in his mom's attic. The box says the Milwaukee Road engine is a G9. A friend told him that the engine was a rubber band drive unit. Does anyone have a picture of what a rubber band unit looks like? We took the shell off but there are no rubber bands inside. The motor turns but the wheels don't. Thanks for any help you can give me.
I do not suffer from insanity...I enjoy every minute of it!!! Over 60 and still playing with toys!
There should be drums on the axles. The rubber bands simply go between those drums and the longitudinal shaft connected to the motor. I think you can buy rubber bands especially sized for the locomotive.
You should also post your question on the Model Railroader magazine forum, where the HO people hang out. Folks on this forum are mostly into larger-scale toy trains.
