Postwar and Williams steamers and Lionel 072 switches

Question, I have read all the horror postings about Lionel 072 modern switches (5165/66) but I have one area I would like information on.  I like the tubular track look and will not be running the new modern scale size locomotives by Lionel or MTH etc.  I will be running steam locos like postwar 2055, 665, 736, General by Lionel and possibly some Williams Golden Memory steamers like 2056 and 773.  Do these Lionel and Williams steamers have problems going thru a modern Lionel 072 switch? 

I might consider Fastrack but I don't like it as well but I have heard the switches are really smooth.  Are they reliable with all engines listed above.

I have the small Hudsons and a Berk that you mention, plus a couple different Williams locos. All run fine on my FasTrack layout with 036 switches.

I have a "new" O72 switch and it appears to work fine with all of my locos EXCEPT the 681. The 681 is an instant full derailment, as in train falling off the track. Not sure why, and I admitedly haven't paid full attention to it.

Don't know about 072 switches having problems but STAY AWAY Lionel #6-23011 O gauge switch(sectional switch pieces) if using Williams, if you use the 6-23011 series you are asking for nightmeres with Williams trains.
