Thanksgiving layouts
Posted by danrunner on Thursday, September 21, 2006 12:39 PM

Halloween layouts seem to get some run here in the posts, but what about Thanksgiving?

Does anyone have one?  Pics would be great! I think the fall colors and harvests could make it the most colorful one of all.

I agree that fall layouts are colorful. However, I think most of us tend to start our Christmas layouts around Thanksgiving.

Still, it's a great theme for a layout - fall colors, maybe some hunters stalking a turkey through the woods - I'd like to see one!

My two favorite seasons for modeling are fall and winter.  In fact, I guess that every layout I've built over the past 20 or so years has had one or the other of those two themes.  I love the fall of the year in real life, and it's a natural for re-creating in model form because it adds so much color and variety to a layout.  Modeling winter is a bit more of a challenge, but I like the way winter scenery shows off the trains.  I haven't tried a "late fall" theme--of the type suitable for the Thanksgiving period--but if I was to attempt such a thing it would probably be closer to the winter type of layout rather than a typical fall layout modeling the period a month or so earlier.
