Lionel engine repair question
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, September 9, 2006 10:39 PM
I have an older Lionel Santa Fe engine.  It has been modified (for example, it looks like the horn was added much later) and repaired many times, by the looks of it.  When I got it, it wasn't running.  After resoldering some wires, I had it running quite nicely for a few weeks.  Now it has suddenly stopped running, and billows smoke instead.  I looked at it under power (very briefly) with the top off and could see what looks like fire, more or less, inside the motor windings, and plenty of smoke coming out.  Does anybody have a suggestion about what to do next?

Sounds like the armature has a short in it. You can either have it rewound or try and locate an operational one. either way you're looking at about 30 bucks for a replacement or a re-wind job. Good luck.

Thanks.  I started to suspect that.  Thanks for the confirmation.
