I set up a 3-rail tubular track (black ties) and tried to run a pre-war Lionel 259e steam engine, tender, and two passenger cars. However, the wheels of the steam engine slip. This is true even after I get it going, I can see the wheels loose traction, especially coming out of the corners. How can I improve the traction of my layout?
I run a prewar 262 on O gauge tubular and have never experienced this problem. Definitely not normal.
It must be your track and/or loco and rollingstock wheels. Probably need a really good cleaning. Get some denatured alcohol, q-tips and a small screwdriver or toothpick to pick the thick gunk off the wheels.Even if they don't look too bad I would use the alcohol on the wheels and track.
