MTH 2-8-0 with proto-2 and Lionel KW

I have a Lionel KW that I had replaced the rectifier disks with diods for the whistle. I want to get a MTH 2-8-0 that has proto-2 sound....Will I be able to
use the KW with this engine to blow the whistle, or will I need the newer type of
whistle / bell box to make it work?

I think you will be OK !! I'm using a postwar ZW & can blow the horn on my PS-2
P&LE 2-8-0 . You can also use activation buttons that Lionel sells, & by using 2 of them, you activate the horn & whistle.

I use an old postwar TW and I am able to activate the whistle on my MTH 2-8-0. It does cause the engine to accelerate when you activate it. However, if you want to use the bell (and hence some of the features that require bell/whistle combinations), you will need an additional button.
