Measuring For Gargraves Track
Posted by tex702 on Saturday, June 10, 2006 3:48 PM
Can anyone tell me the correct way to order curved Gargraves track? I have a large layout that has two wooden trestles. I want to use Gargraves with wooden ties. The trestles are built to take Fast Track but have changed my mind to Gargraves. I do not want to bend my own track. Fast track circle takes 8 curved track to make 360 degree circle. If you divide that in half and measure from center rail to center rail you get 36". How do you measure for Gargraves and will Gargraves curved track give lets say no more than 1/4" either way?

It probably won't give much. When on the GG website, go to "miscellaneous", their is a instruction manual, item #001. It's free, will tell you how to bend the track. I had these instructions a few years ago. there was a way to bend it using a five gallon bucket to form the track around. You can also cut a sheet of plywood to the correct radius and bend the track around it.

I believe that the fixed width track's radii is meaused center rail to center rail. You could just contact the company and ask them, they have a website:

Flex track isn't that hard to bend but I really don't recommend pre-bending. Track is actually easier to deal with if you "bend it" in place. This particulalry true for larger radius curves. Once you start to drop down below O-42, the fixed radii stuff starts looking more attractive.
