Wire Clip Problems
Posted by gottcent on Monday, June 5, 2006 9:16 AM
I just received a new Lionel Sunoco Industrial Oil Tank unit. The wires need to be attached to fahnstock clips on the underside. But the clips are in a tiny recess and the wires are virtually impossible to attach. Anyone else having problems with these kinds of clips? Any suggestions?

Recessed Fahnestock clips can indeed be a pain. I find that solid wire works much better than stranded in this application. Bend the wire into an "L" shape, insert it, and then bend the "tail" up a little.

If you must use stranded wire, tin it lightly with solder and proceed as above.

Or you can just solder the wires to the clips, but be very careful not to melt any the surrounding plastic.
