I have a mountain with wire mesh covered with plaster aparis.
I would like to remover the plaster aparis and use a different
topping.
any suggestions for what to recoat the wire mesh with beside plaster aparis.

You could try using insulating foam ("Great Stuff" or any similar expanding "from a can" brand) and spread it onto the wire, and after it expands you can cut away and reshape it as you please..... I assume you might be looking for something more light weight than the plaster, and this stuff barely weighs anything by comparison.

Papier Mache. Or, Lionel used burlap dipped in glue for their display layouts. Wallpaper paste would work for either one.

Plaster cloth rolls cut into the right pieces works fast and easy. I bunch up newspaper
and put it on cardboard strips and then apply the plaster cloth. In your case just apply it to the screen. See http:www.rrtrains.com for the plaster cloth.
