Sad news from York

Yesterday morning, longtime American Flyer dealer and expert Bob Tufts awoke, visited several people at the various bandit meets before York, and later returned to his hotel room. People were suspicous when his tables at the Billy Budd went uncovered late into the day, so the police were notified and they discovered Bob had passed away, lying on his bed.

For those of you who do not know Bob, he was a fountain of Gilbert information. He has studied copies of the Amato files (Hobby Surplus), written the definite book on American Flyer sets (The Almost Complete Book of American Flyer S Gauge Sets), and was in the process of writing another book with Bob Bubeck. He was editor of the AF Collectors Column in S Gaugian magazine. He also hosted the Gilbert Get Together at York, which met tonight without Bob's presence.

Bob's presence will be sorely missed, not just at York but by the entire AF community. Several fabulous tributes were made in Bob's behalf tonight.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this point, although there will be a viewing in northern Virginia on Tuesday evening and Bob will be buried in Arlington cemetery.

Condolences to his family and friends.

I'm new here, so I've never met the guy, but...I've often said, if I had my druthers, I'd rather die with my bamboo fly rod in one hand, and be face first in a trout stream. This guy died at a train show, and trains were big on his list no doubt, so... amongst sadness, which there is no doubt, some strength should come from the fact that he was doing what he truly loves.
