I’ve been lurking and reading various threads from the forum over the past year and thought it was time to participate. I live in the Raleigh, NC area. While I don’t have an actual layout, I do have some track nailed to a board to run my trains on. Nothing fancy, just lower end locomotives and cars. But fun, fun, fun!

This forum offers a wealth of information and advice. My recent accomplishment of getting my Polar Express Berkshire smoking properly can be attributed to the suggestions I’ve read out here.

Nothing wrong with so-called "lower end" trains. Most of my O gauge trains would be considered lower-end by most folks here. Interesting thing is, they run as well or better than most of the higher-end stuff.

And it sure doesn't take a fancy or complex layout to enjoy these toy trains. You're obviously having fun, and that's really all that matters.

An interesting variety of model trains from the web post.
Have you ever been to the Railroad Musuem in Wilmington NC, or the Roundhouse style museum in Savanah GA? From what I have heard Atlantic Coast Line used to run into Wilminton NC, now only the old roadbed remains.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes, guys. I've spoken a few times via email with the Chief before, but didn't know he had varmit hunting, pond fishing, sweet tea driving, grits eating parties! Where do I sign up?!

Yes, I've been to the Museum in Wilmington. Another favorite is the transportation museum in Spencer.

My hometown is Laurinburg, NC. It's on the South Carolina border. Seaboard use to run through there a LONG time ago. My dad has told me stories about sneaking on board the train when it stopped at the water tower. He's even talked about swimming in the water tower.

There's a small Norfolk & Southern yard about 2.5 miles from my current house. I sit on my deck, sipping sweet wine, and listen to the horn.

I think my next model railroad venture will be adding some LED lighting to some of my cars. I've read some of the threads on the subject and they sounded interesting.

I also am running the same locos as the first two pictured in the Locomotive section except our Chessie lost its horn awhile back. Dad (me) hooked a tunnel portal that was just sitting loosely next to some scenery under construction. The funny part was that I was creeping up slowly to the portal and just barely touched it. Then the portal tipped and hooked the engine, passenger car and smoking caboose and took them right to the cement floor. (2 1/2 ft) Except for the horn needing a new glue job, everything works nice, real nice. Gotta love toy trains.

JeffPo lives near my son and its no big city. [;)] Our problem now is to get a trolling motor mounted on the front of Jeff's "play" boat so he can fish once in a while. Yes Jeff, we shoot beavers, muskrats and groundhogs. Got lots of deer on my pond lease behind my house. Big deep pond full of fish. So you need to come on up to Roseyville. Like Dr. John says, you need to visit the coffee pot. BTW: don't believe anything the Yanks say. Never a true word in their mouths. [}:)][;)] GRITS time. Making a jug of sweet tea right now. [my rule is to drink sweet tea at every restaurant when it can be found. At every family gathering. I switch from Pepsi One to sweet tea at home when the weather gets warm. ITS WARM!]

Welcome to the forum. You'll find great guys and good conversation. You'll even find some good kidding back and forth between the northerners and southerners.

I enjoyed the latterns on your website. One of the lanterns I have is just like the red one you show. I have another one with clear glass. It was good to learn how they are used.

Talk about lower end. I ran my Marx E-7 and it's set of freight cars hours on end as a kid. I still have it and run it occasionally although I consider it retired now. I have more expensive trains now, but none ever gave me as much fun as that Marx 027 train.
