Customized your transformer?

Has anyone customized their transformer and / or train control devices to more mimic an actual engine stand? I got an idea about replacing the knob on a transformer with a homemade trolley control handle.

Are you familiar with the American Flyer transformers like the 30B? They have large handles that resemble those on a Diesel-electric locomotive control stand. They even have an optional deadman's switch feature.

I stopped using mine because I could never get used to the two handles' operating in opposite directions and to the need to lift up the handle to step the e-unit, there being no other way to interrupt the voltage.

I hadn't heard of them, Bob. I'll have to troll the Web looking for photos - they sound neat.

The MRC single track transformer has a great train-like handle as well.

Doug, you could probably make a pretty cool handle with some wood dowels.
