S gauge switch
Posted by phillyreading on Monday, April 3, 2006 12:30 PM
I have lost the information from a few months ago on how to wire an older American Flyer switch with four wire posts, it is made by A.C. Gilbert and not any new company.
Would appreciate any help.

From the AF 1952 manual: "Hook the single yellow wire from the control box to the 15 volt post on the transformer, and the single black wire to the base post. The two 4-wire cables go to the two switches and the various colored wires are attached to the corresponding colored terminals (small colored dots in front of each terminal)". As you may know, the little lever on the switch can be set for 1 or 2 train operation...so one train can sit in the passing siding, while the other one runs. Hope this helps. Joe

If the paint is worn off the terminals, from the light housing the colors go black red yellow green. Black is base, red is go to siding, yellow is the light, and green go to straight.

Thanks for the help! Also found that track power is not needed for the switch to work.
