Repairs to plastic bodies
Posted by dwiemer on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 11:23 AM
What is the best way to repair plastic bodies for rolling stock? I have a 6517 caboose with a crack on one end of the roof. It had been repaired by the previous owner, but the glue has not held. I was wondering what the best adhesive would be and any other suggestions for doing such repairs.
Thanks,
Dennis

Dennis, apply LIQUID plastic model cement (not the tube stuff you inhale) to the crack from the underside of the caboose. Flow it in and apply enough pressure to close the crack. Don't flow so much in that it runs through the crack and all over the outside of the caboose. That will damage the piece's look. A rubber band wrapped around the caboose several times would work as a great clamp. let it sit over night. See where you stand the next morning. Good luck with your crack, Dennis.

Thanks Jim, I will give it a try. The last guy that had this and fixed it did a decent job, but it fell apart.
