The B&M-MEC Flying Yankee

I came across an interesting web site the other day. The Flying Yankee, a B&M/MEC art-deco streamliner from the 1930s is being restored. The web site has lots of photos of the restoration process, as well as vintage pictures of the train in it's heyday. What a gorgeous train. It was built by the Budd company in 1935, and was a 3 car train. I vacation near where it's being restored. I might just pay that train a visit.

Lionel made a crude version of it in the late 1930s and early 40s. I'd love to see a new tooling done and issued to coincide with the completion of the restoration. I'd buy one. Below is a link to the Flying Yankee site.

I have one of the first Classic Trains mag that 'has an indepth article about this trainset. It's past two or three decades have been 'interesting.' Kalmbach's fouindation or whatever they use to support restorations has given this project some aid in the past.

I used to run one about 30 years ago, but it jumped the rails real easy. The wheels were hollow so it was a bit top heavy. But the shine was phenomenal for a then 40 year old.
The 752 streamliners meant for 072 track had solid wheels and probably tracked better.
