Do you have an Acela?!!? So do I! I have been wondering the same thing! Also on how to open the front to unviele a coupler Shown in the magazine. Try going to www.lionel.com and look for a contact us link. Lionel shoud be happy to help an Acela owner.

Pages 7,8, and 12 of the owners manual. You can download this if you lost track of it from the Lionel web site, Customer Service tab.

Accessing the couplers is on the bottom of page 10.

I believe that the locomotive roof hatches are similar in design the ones used on the S-1/S-2 and scale GG-1, they are held in place by magnets.

Not true. The Acela body is plastic, so no magnets.

The rectangular cover is held on with a plastic tab on the short sides of the box. I found it easiest to place my finger on the side facing the pantograph and gently push inward near the bottom while also using your finger to nudge it upward.

It may be helpful to hold your other hand across the body over the top to prevent a huge movement when the latch lets go. This gets easier after a few times, I think.

Sorry I can't comment on the nosecone, I haven't removed that yet to take a look.

Be very careful when opening the lid, due to their close proximity to the pantographs. I would recommend that you lock them down per the operator's manual instructions.
