BENCH WORK CONTROL BOARD
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, February 23, 2006 11:58 AM
I SEEM TO REMEMBER IN EITHER A BACK ISSUE OF CLASSIC TOY TRAINS OR ONE OF THE GREENBERG PUBS A SUGGESTED PLAN FOR MAKING AND ATTACHING TO A TRAIN TABLE A CONTROL BOARD. THE BOARD WAS SLIGHTLY SLANTED TOWARD THE OPERATOR FOR EASE OF USE AND VIEWING. WHAT I ALSO LIKED ABOUT THE PLAN WAS THE ABSENCE OF THE NEED FOR SUPPORT LEGS. ALL SUPPORT WAS PROVIDED VIA ATTACHMENT TO THE TABLE. DOES ANYONE REMEMBER SUCH A PLAN? I HAVE ALL BACK ISSUES OF CLASSIC TOY TRAINS FROM 1990. BUT TO SEARCH THROUGH ALL THOSE ISSUES IN THE HOPE I REMEMBERED CORRECTLY WOULD BE A TASK I WOULD RATHER NOT HAVE TO DO. THE CLASSIC TOY TRAIN INDEX OF BACK ISSUES PROVIDED AT THIS WEB SITE HAS NOT HELPED ME. ONE ALMOST NEEDS TO KNOW THE ACTUAL NAME OF THE ARTICLE TO GET TO IT.

ANY HELP ON THIS WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. WHILE I COULD EXPERIMENT WITH CONSTRUCTION, I AM NOT ONE WHO LIKES TO REINVENT THE WHEEL.

REGARDS,

BILL HUDSON

Don't know about the article in question, but I personally like setting up a sliding drawer arrangement mounted to the underside of the bench arrangement. Use standard drawer hardware, build a drawer, then hinge the actual control panel at the front. When in use hinge the panel up with the back edge resting on the layout top edge.
