Lionel 0-8-0's

I'm interested in Lionels 0-8-0's. How is the sound quality? Detail? Compare to MTH? Other comments?

I have the Boston Albany 0-8-0 from Lionel 6-28072. Great runner will negociate 0-27 curves pulls great smokes great, but the sound system is a little weak should be louder. Otherwise a great little engine.

I have the C&O #75 from a couple of years back and the sound, I feel, is poor and I usually run it with the sound off. Lionel has greatly improved sound with 5.0.

I have the CB&Q, no complaints other than when pushing/pulling some cars with the front coupler on tight radius curves, less than the O-31 recommended, they'll derail due to reaching the limit of swing for the coupler. It's not the engine's problem, its the track, a branch line into the mountains with a couple of tight curves.

I have the NYC 080 from the first release and the sound is great on it (not sure why others are not having problems). It is also the first Lionel loco to have four chuffs per revolution of the drivers. As LAZ says, it is a great little engine and fun for switching chores. It is geared pretty low so it is not a fast runner if that is what you like.

The detail for the price is excellent and the one I have is an excellent match (including cab number) to those documented in Al Stauffers book on NYC motive power.
