Cheap windows for kitbashing o scale buildings?
Posted by mickey4479 on Sunday, January 22, 2006 6:37 PM
I have looked on line at the list of usual suspects that sell o scale windows. They are nice but a little pricey for me. I have a few kit bash projects that may involve large buildings and will need 30-40 windows. Does anyone know where I could find reasonably priced windows in bulk? Or any alternatives?

I've used clear plastic & just drawn lines on them with a fine line marker with fairly good results for factories. Have you tried the site below, plus I have seen these at train shows & discounted at other stores on line, but I forgot who had them at a lower price.

A similar solution to what John suggests is using clear styrene with colored drafting tape for windows. The tape is inexpensive (available at most office supply stores) and available in a variety of narrow widths and several colors (although I tend to use black). I also spray the backside of the clear styrene with dulcote to give a frosted or dirty appearance for industrial windows.

I've used styrene strips and square bars for framing the window with clear for the glass. After making a jig putting together windows doesn't take any longer than what it takes for the glue to set, as long as the pieces are pre-cut.
