Who Wants Lionel to Start a "Prewar Celebration Series"?

Okay, a lot of us have been batting this idea around for a week or two now. Is it time for Lionel to start a Prewar Celebration Series? Their Postwar Celebration Series has proven to be successful, and apparently profitable. With all the new interest in tinplate that MTH's Tinplate Traditions line has generated, do you think that Lionel would be successful with a similar line of trains? They're obviously thinking along these lines with the 269E set in the new catalog (which, from what I've seen on the Internet, is generating a LOT of interest). I say it's time. Lionel did a beautiful job with their Standard gauge accessories (and the two trains) from a few years ago, so I think they should go for it. [:)]

I have to say yes ! I think it would be great & I have a couple other friends that would like to see it, too, I believe ! I really think where the biggest interested guys would be, would probably be the guys in the TCA.

I'm not familiar with Lionel but I love tinplate, I'd hope they'd do it right though, that is building up the locomotive from parts rather than just a couple of pressings vaguely shaped like a steam loco.

Hello Clint! Yes, Lionel should start a prewar Celebration Series; Even if they only issue one set a year. That would be better than nothing at all or do it with Century Club Three offerings? And I do believe that most Folks would be interested in such a series as their Postwar series has proven to be very popular as well. Take Care.

Prewardude, 2 thumbs up for the 269E set, ordering mine today. Hope this set gets the ball rolling for more sets to be produced. I received the Lionel Classics 44E set for Christmas and this would be a great addition for my layout.

I think it's a good idea. Perhaps the new catalog's set is a trial balloon. Only problem is the $600 price tag. If they meet with success and can get the price down a little for future releases, it might work. There IS something magical about those old tinplate trains, I'll grant you (and I am a postwar guy)...

I for one would love to see a re-release of the old tinplate trains. I have a few of the old pre-war locos, and I really like the tin plate freight and passenger cars. Lots of variety and colorful.

I think so too. Personally I would like to see a "Baby" Blue Comet Set and maybe a 260E freight set. A 763 Gunmetal Grey Hudson with the vanderbuilt tender would be really cool too.

While I certainly favor a Prewar Celebration Series and applaud the release of the 269E set, I would hope the price could drop below $500 per set. Probably wishful thinking on my part.
