Village Trolley Trouble
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 9:10 AM
My Trolley started to smoke after getting stuck at a bumper. I can't get it to power up and can't find a way to access the motor. It is the Lionel Village Trolley from 1997.Any Help?? Also I have a postwar 2046 that it appears the gear on the armature is worn out. It has a groove in it now. It runs smooth and quiet in reverse but grinds in forward. Is there any other way to replace without removing the wheels or I am stuck? Thanks

What model is your trolley? I am aware of instances where Industrial Rails trolleys have shorted out and even caught fire. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any repair options for them.

Hello rrjcreole! I would look for a Die cast frame with a pullmor motor on it for your Village Trolley. Try the Train Tender,George Tebolt, Or Dr.Tinker's Toy Train Parts. They all have websites and one of them should be able to help You out. You may have to Take your 2046 to a Train Shop & have a new gear put on the Armature Shaft and yes the Center & Rear Drive Wheels will have to come off in order for this to be done. Dr.Tinker should be able to do this for you. Take Care.

The Village Trolley set was number 11809; it was first offered in 1996. Here's an exploded-view parts drawing:

http://www.lionel.com/Products/ProductNavigator/_ServiceDocuments/Supplement31/31610-1809-001Complete.pdf

It looks like the two screws are the only things holding everything together. I'd check for you, but my wife would get pretty upset if I messed up her trolley!

I suspect the problem is the circuit board. Lionel sells the board ($3) and the motor ($6) thru their website.
