Roadbed Color
Posted by BobbyDing on Saturday, January 14, 2006 4:48 PM
OK, this may sound like a silly topic[:I], but I was wondering if anybody out there has gone with a little different color than the standard gray for their roadbed[?]

The reason I ask is because if I use Altas track, I will be making and coloring my own roadbed. Today in a craft store I came across a textured (lumpy) rust colored paint with brown and black speckles. I thought this might look really good as a south western type of roadbed (or not). So I thought I would toss this question out there.

Anyone[?][:I]

Go for it. Ballast for the Chicago Northwestern is a purple/pink. Rust w/brown and black sounds good to me.

Ballast comes in a variety of colors, depending on the region of the country, whether it's mainline, branch, shortline or yard trackage, etc. Here in Prattville, I've seen gray, brown and nearly black. When I lived in Florida years ago, some of the ballast was nearly white.
