Lionel Odyssey System

On the earlier locos there was no on/off switch. Can one be added so these locos will be more compatable in lashup operations? Or would it be a major circuitry issue? [?]

Good question. I've got one like that. Might try emailing TSA [if they made it]. They are pretty good at that stuff and might anwer it. The guy a Digital Dynamics is great too. Best call him. Let me know if you find out.

I have a scale pacific with Oddyssey,I am assuming you are speaking of conventional operation. According to the instructions on mine the speed control can be turned on and off by manipulation of the throttle and whistle button. Mine however would set into speed control whenever I ran it. I called a Lionel tech who said the only way to permanently disable the Oddyssey feature was to replace a board and do some rewiring. So what I did then was run the engine at the highest speed and set the speed there. This in effect removes the speed feature since it seeks its highest setting. My engine also had a lurch problem. I eliminated this by installing several diodes in the motor circuit.

I do not know if this is what Doug is getting at. Operate in TMCC but lash up with other TMCC no Odyssey engines. Later modle Odyssey engines have the off/on switch to allow this. How can we wire a switch for those earlier TMCC engines with Odyssey but no disable switch?

According to the Lionel technician I spoke to you cannot install a switch or even disconnect it permanently. To get rid of it you have to replace one of the boards and jump some wires.

I was thinking more along the lines of diesel lashups, whether it be two, three or more engines, in a TMCC environment, for pulling the very heavy die-cast type of consists.
It sounds as though my question has been answered, as I had suspected it would involve some rather drastic changes. So I think I'll just wait until the diesel of choice comes out with the on/off capabilities already installed. [:(]

Original Odyssey boards could only be disabled when in conventional mode. You could pull the Odyssey board and replace it with a DCDR (stock lionel DC Driver board) or a Train America Studios Engineer on Board.
