well down stairs i have a linoel alco from the post war era i belive the exsact production number is santa fe 2321 or somthing like that ill have to look it up any ways the motar is toast i would like to find a place that would sell me the motar (and truck ) but i dont want to spend more than 60$ the other thing i was thinking of was making it a dummy and then wethering ( i think thats how you spell it ) but i dont want to cange the boddy too much ( i still would like to motorise it). THANKS FOR ANY INFORMATION.[:D]

Williams has power upgrade kits available. Call 410-997-7766 for information. I had them repower a dummy F3 for me and am very pleased, though it did cost more for them to do the job than if I had ordered the kits (don't know price of kits).

The easiest thing to do would be to pull the armature from the motor. You have to leave the motor housing in place, as it is part of the assembly that holds the front truck.

To pull the armature, you first want to separate the motor and the truck by removing the one screw on the bottom. The motor should then lift right off. Remove the two screws holding the brushplate, and lift it off. Then look on the bottom of the motor, and there should be a little E clip wrapped around the wormgear shaft. Pop this off with a screwdriver. The armature should then lift right out. Be sure to save all the little parts that come out with it, as well as the armature itself.

You don't have to reinstall the brush plate; it's whatever you want to do. Personally, I would leave it, but it makes no difference either way. Then just set the motor back down on the truck, and fix it back in place with the screw. The engine should now roll freely.

Are you entirely sure that the motor is shot? It's very rare to have one that's gone completely, they can usually be revived with new brushes as well as cleaning and oiling. At worst, you would need to rewind either the armature or field core, which typically costs $30-40. The motor in that engine is one of Lionel's best of the postwar era, and rarely causes trouble.

well th previous onwer decided to over haul the loco and took apart the motar in the way he did it was by hammer (this was such a bad job that he glued it.
