Locos w/ mechanical sound: Are there any new ones?
Posted by danrunner on Saturday, January 7, 2006 10:12 AM
I'm looking for "O" and "S" locos that use mechanical whistles and chuffing. Are there any new ones out there or are they all digital? I have some railsounds equipment, but I like the old-fashioned sound of American Flyer. Any thoughts?

dan,

Lionel still sells motor driven air whistles in their starter and some set products. For example, the Polar Express and the separate sell traditional size tenders (e.g. NYC) has one of these (an electronic activator vs solenoid is used to turn on the motor when whistle button is pressed).

No new mechanical chuff sounds since early introduction of Lionel RAilsounds.

Good luck,
Roy

Regards, Roy
