My Whistle won't blow
Posted by KennyG228 on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 7:46 AM
Greetings!
I am new to the hobby, as I have purchased a Lionel Midwest Freight Starter set from Hobby Lobby foir a very good price ($99.00). My son and I set up the train yesterday and after approximately 2 hours of operation, my whislte stopped blowing and the train seemed to have slowed down a bit. I tried all of the sugestions in the owners manuel from cleaning the track to reversing the wires, but my whistle will not blow. Should I take it to a repair center or just suck it up. I admit I do wi***o have the whistle. It is the only function that I have. [:)] I truly appreciate all of the information that I have found so far on the site. I am looking forward to good fellowship and information in the future.

It sounds like a blown rectifier in your powersupply somewhere. I guess it's best to take it back to the shop and swap it for another set. That's the easiest way.

If it is brand new take it back for warranty repair or replacement. My answer is don't fool with new stuff.

Thanks for the help. I returned the set yesterday and they had another set that they thought that the transformewr was bad. It was just not making contact at the screw on terminals. The store allowed me to swap out engines and everything worked as it should have. BTW, the replacement whistle sounds better than the original, and I also have two people riding in the cab. The original engine did not. I also noticed that the speaker in the cab was facing down toward the rails. The original unit had a speaker facing up toward the roof. Other than that, the engines look identical. I am now happy and looking forward to many hours of fun, as soon as my fastrack pieces arrive in the mail![:)]
