Guess What I bought yesterday.
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, December 29, 2005 1:32 PM
Hey Ya'll

This christmas, all I asked for was money, so I could buy what I wanted (Trains, of course). And I got a total of $600.

Yesterday, I went to visit Grandpa, and he told me that a friend of his had just given him a restored 2343 Santa Fe F3 A-A. He said he didn't need it, as he already has a 2353, and he said he would sell it to me for $250.

Well, I rushed home as fast as I could, brought $250 of my $600, and now, I am the proud owner of a beutiful (Yet restored) 2343 Santa Fe F3 A-A. I love the postwar diesel horn.

It runs like a champ, and now all I need to do is get the 2530-2534 aluminum streamlined passenger cars for it.

I will keep you posted on other purchases.

Wow, I have seen a few of those, but the prices for the A A sets I have seen are $500. Too expensive, even though I just bought 6 new cars for my Garden Railway.

Hello Steel Rails! Wow what an all time buy! Two A-A F3 Units. That will most likely be your best buy for all time. Considering it came from your Grandfather. Never get rid or sell them. Enjoy.[:)]

Congratulations on your F3 find. If the original Lionel Aluminum cars a too expensive. You might consider a Williams Aluminum Car set. Maybe you'll find good deal on the Lionel cars too.

That was my thought, as well. Maybe we're missing something here?

Congrats on the find. Too bad your grandpa chose to charge you for his 'gift'. In any event, be careful getting the passenger cars. They can get pretty expensive. Some people think they're worth more than a small car for a set of them and will try to charge you accordingly. I've picked up one at a time because I can't see plunking that kinda money down at one time.
I have an unrestored 2343 and dummy. I also have the 2533 and 2534 passenger cars. Just these 4 alone are over 4 feet long on the rails!! so you'll need some room to run these.

I hope you get as much enjoyment out of running them as I do.
