2025 touch up paint recommendations
Posted by pmilazzo on Tuesday, December 20, 2005 10:30 AM
I have a 2025 engine that only needs some touch up on the front boiler plate which happens to be a reproduction replacement part. Apparently, the paint they used on the part is a dead on match for my engine, but its not as robust and is wearing off key area's.

I called the company that made the part and they told me that the paint they used was specially mixed for them and a close match would be flat black...

Does anyone have any recommendations for black Lionel engine touch paint for the boiler plate? I'm sure someone has found a good match rather than a generic flat black.

Some suggestions from others on a diferent forum were:

Krylon #1613 Semi-Flat Black
Floquil "Engine black"

Thanks

You got a lot of good suggestions on the OGR forum. I'll add this one:

Get some flat black enamel hobby paint and thin it down some with mineral spirits. Apply with a bru***o the area that needs it and let it dry. It should dry without a raised area if you thinned it enough. Let it dry for a day or two, then blend it in with the surrounding paint by rubbing the oil from your finger onto the freshly painted area.
