Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, December 17, 2005 4:21 PM
I am building a layout using mth realtrax and I would like to know the uses of this device. I wish mth came out with manual or some thing of the things that i would be needing for their accessories. I have just started my track work and I hate the taught of taking apart this realtrax that I have allready built. I really don't want to continue any furture than I have to. I hope you guy's out there can help me. Felix [:)]]

Hi felix. The part you are talking about is the ITAD, correct? The only thing you have to do is cut the removable section out ot the Realtrax section and slide the ITAD in place. If you do not want to do that, buy Lionel's 153 IR section. With this you do not have to do anything to the track, and it will activate the connected accessory. The MTH one has to be connected in the slot.

I am still looking for a description of how this thing works. How does it get activated and does it send a signal to activate to trip a relay or what? I may want it to change a color of a signal or may want it to activate crossing gate or turn on lights. I looked in the mth and lionel catologs but i could not find the lionel 153 IR section. Mth gives no mention or description either. Do I have to go buy the accessory first and then determine if I can use this ITAD or lionel 153 IR section? Felix

See my reply in the post above yours. The MTH track device has both a NC and NO contact which would run either device. They are not as reliable as the relay method however.

If you use a MTH 45-1028 ITAD you need no connections to the track. It works with a light beam like the automatic doors at the supermarket. We have ours hooked up to an independent power source. You can adjust the distance and duration of the operations also.We also fund that if placed in direct light they tend to be erratic so we try to place them in the shadow of a structure on our layout.
