K-Line Porter
Posted by dwiemer on Saturday, December 17, 2005 9:24 AM
For anyone Who has a K-Line porter, I had a new one out of the box with a problem you may want to correct early on. First, the scale coupling on the front likes to hit the center of the crossover tracks, so make sure the brakeline is above it. Secondly, while running around the tree, the whole front section, including rods and guides came off. it is all held on by one small screw under the front of the boiler. After repairing this, I found all the screws to be lose. I tightened them and to prevent further issues, placed a drop of clear nail polish on the screw head.
Hope this helps. They are neat little engines.

Dennis,
Hows the smoke unit? Is it fan driven? Also, does it have good slow speed running?

I've been interested in buying one since I saw it at the local hobby shop. Looks like alot of locomotive in a small package at a small price.

PBJ,
I have one of those Porters and it has been a great loco.
The smoke unit is fan driven and the higher the voltage the more smoke you get,
also it the smoke is not timed with the wheel rotation,(a steady smoke stream)
This loco creeps at slow speed pretty good.

I have to agree with Carl, they are great locos. I am sure many will be ordering these, especially when the prices are getting even better. I have mine pulling three scale boxcars that came in a set for K-line collector members. Also, the plymouth engines are great deals, (about $50.00 in the latest Trainworld Add in OGR).
