Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, December 14, 2005 3:28 PM
I have a #2004 diesel and when i put it on a 40" track to try it, it sits there running and idles but cant get the thing to move forward or reverse.......my controller is an lw trainmaster 125 watt, suggestions?

my hook up is from "A" post to #2 terminal and "U" post to #1 terminal. controller is from a nieghbor (borrowed) so wondering if it works correctly.

Cade, You might want to check the Lionel site for any info (owners manual) on the transformer, on the ones that I have the U post is common and goes to the #2 connector on the lock-on. Also maybe a little more info on the loco mite help.

Doug, Lionel's LW transformer is a Postwar unit (1955) designed to run a single train. As with most other PW single-train transformers, the U terminal is hot (connect to center rail, #1). For multi-train transformers (e.g., KW, ZW), the U terminal is common (connect to outside rail, #2). Cade's connections are correct.

Cade, if the diesel is producing idling sounds, power is getting to it, but the reverse unit isn't cycling. Look for a slide switch that locks the reverse unit into one position; slide the switch to the other position and try it.

It would help if you could provide more information on the diesel. For example, if it's an MTH unit with the original Protosound system, the microprocessor may have permanently locked out the system (there's a kit to fix that).
