Ran trains with my 3 yr old for first time!

Well, some of you may have read in other thresds that I just moved and am getting ready to build a new layout. I've had some sort of layout for yearsb but not such that my kids could play with it.

So I have put my old shelves up and gotten out a bunch of trains. I used some leftover layout wood I kept and built a 4X8 and put a loop of track on it. Gracie, my oldest (3yrs 9 months) was able to listen to me and run the trains by herself the way I wanted( not to fast) although it helped that I was using a little transformer. But she would ask for a differnent car or engine and I would get it and put it on. We coupled and uncoupled cars and she didn't get bored! I know many of you already know the power of trains, but it is neat to be a part of it first hand. So now i have to actually set up a trackplan and put somewood up around the edge just in case[;)]. The best part is now I can spend time with Gracie and run trains, I can multitask![:D] The others will soon follow...

Great news! I run trains with my 3 year & 6 mo. old, Ben, my youngest. He stands next to the layout and blows his whistle and puts items in the gons or flats as they go by. He also rearranges everything in reach of his stool, but I've set it up that way. We occasionally push a plastic car off the track too.

ogage and Doug..... You have started the new generation.
I love to run my trains with my 3 1/2 year old grand daughter.
She loves pushing the whistle button too.

Trains used to be and i find still are a great way to bring a family together, I have 5 children with one on the way and they all love Trains as much as I do. My layout has become a true family experience that we all enjoy together. In this day and age its nice to know that model trains still attracts a child, and watching the excitment in there eyes as they are in control of a speeding passenger train far exceeds there looks when they are playing there X-box video games. My love has been passed on from me by my father as I pass it on to them. Enjoy you children and your trains. You have started them on a wonderful adventure.[:)]

Dennis,
Sounds like a great time. My kids like the handcars with cartoon characters on them. Either the train is chasing the handcar or the handcar is chasing the train. And a figure 8 always makes it a little more interesting with the 90degree rail crossing. Another good one is the target launcher cars that levitate a ballon in the air.Good times!

Bought a Lionel Whistle Shed and put it under my Christmas table layout. Mounted the button on the table side so my 15 month-old Grandson can "blow-away" without getting near the transformer. Joe

I can run five trains at a time on my layout. My five year old grandson runs one and my three year old grandaughter pushes the whistle button. They love the operating dump cars and think its just great to activate them.We all have a ball.Thier grandmom is not happy about it though. They run right over to the door and want to run the trains when they come over.
