Kent Johnson on DIY
Posted by Jumijo on Monday, December 12, 2005 8:16 AM
Did any one else see Kent Saturday night on DIY's Working on the Railroad show? The entire show was devoted to O scale and featured the Choo Choo Barn's incredible layout. Several great shots of a 671 pulling a passenger set! I'd love to visit that someday, if I ever get to PA.

Kent demonstrated how easy it is to add animation to a layout. Did a great job, too! [tup][tup] I look forward to seeing Kent on this week's show where he will assemble a trestle kit.

That old automatic gateman makes a heck of a racket, huh?

Yup, maybe one of the best episodes yet, but then I'm highly biased. I'm still not sure how "informative" the show is in general, but this one was at least fun to watch.[;)]

Jim, you really aren't that far from Strasburg, you ought to plan a trip for the summer. It is train heaven, with the ChooChoo Barn, the TCA museum, the Strasburg Railroad, and the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum. To complete the experience, stay overnight at the Caboose Motel.

Laz, I haven't noticed any reruns of the show during the week, just the two airings on Saturday night, 7:30 and 10:30 central.

Elliot,

I would thoroughly enjoy a stay at the Caboose Motel! That whole area is train nirvana to be sure, and it would make for a nice vacation . . .

Laz, the show was re-broadcast at 11:30 the same night. It will be shown again, I'm sure of it. DIY has already run a mini marathon of the 5 part layout in a box assembly a few weeks back.

The animations incorporated into the Choo Choo Barn's layout are very clever and well done. We taped the show, and yesterday, while my wife and daughter were in Boston at the ballet, me and the boys watched it "a few" times.

I'd like to add some animated accessories to our layout. So many nice ones out there now.

I am glad I found this show, Kent did a great job!

I found this show a few weeks ago and have been watching the "River Pass" build it kit.

Hello Jim! You guys are lucky to have Cable T.V. The reason we don't have it is its just another bill to pay. Maybe someday these shows will be on DVD.

Enjoyed the program as best as I could with a 3 year old and a 15 month old trying to wrestle in front of the screen. I am inspired with the animations, I have access to small motors that the nurses save for me when they do some cases. I just need to figure out how and what to build. Perhaps if we contact the show or network, they will make more of a focus on O guage.

DIY = Do It Yourself.[;)]

I'm not actually sure how much teaching value this show has, but anything about trains can't be all bad.[swg]
