My new find, With new pics..
Posted by Munster518 on Thursday, December 8, 2005 9:00 PM
Over the past few weekends Ive been setting up a small layout displaying some of lionels vintage accesories at the local library. It seemed to be a hit with all audiences ranging from adults to kids. It really made me feel good when the parents where asking me where can I buy trains, and what would be a good starter set. Thats what made it worth it to me[:)].

Well, while starting to pack things up at the end of the day, a man comes in and says "Ive got some trains for sale, would you be interested" my reaction of coarse is yes. He brings me out to his car, opens the trunk, and they're they are an assorment of early 20s and 30s lionel and even a 347 passenger set with the set box. The assorment is a bunch of odd freight cars and a steam engine thats got two different tenders. Anyway, I guess this was a good way to get started in collecting standard gauge [:D][:D][:)].

Sincerely
John

Sounds like a case of "made luck" to me. Because John invested his time and energy in the library display he was able to purchase the gentleman's trains. Seems fair to me.[:)]

Wow - considering the age of those they're in amazing shape. I particularly like the little boxcab electric - I have a repro Hornby clockwork one (try searching ebay for "Hachette Hornby" sometime - they did a whole series of tinplate reproduction O models with a magazine partwork, including a few clockwork locos) in my tiny collection of tinplate O but it's based on a French prototype rather than an NYC one. A good find!

Thanks everyone, the only thing about the set is that the electric engines drive wheels are cracked badly and need to be replaced. And the head light cases are cracked so I would replace those also. I'll try to post some pics of the other misc trains Ive got. Thanks

Cracked wheels and headlights aside, it does look to be in exceptional condition. I recently bought the identical set...minus the boxes and track..but right down to the same colors and even the combination latch/hook couplers on the #8. Sure wish mine was as complete! Goes to show ya....promoting the hobby does have it's perks. WTG John.

I just got around to taking a few more pics of the other Misc trains he had sold me. Also, I had just recently received a call from him saying that he's got a few more older lionel as he would put it. He had mentioned a crane, which If Im not mistaken is the one that clamps onto the rails, thanks again everyone.

John...again, you've got some pretty exceptional examples there! You'd almost swear they were 5 year old reproductions, the condition is that good.
On the offhand, if the guy happens to have a standard gauge #19 combination coach/bagage car in dark olive green, circa roughly 1922, in the same condition as your #8, I'd be willing to make you a generous offer. I need one to complete a set. Thanks

That first picture of that power station has a nice "feel" to it, with the sunlight streaming in on it. It's a feeling that you just don't get with plastic postwar/modern stuff.

I can't believe the condition of those trains! Very nice, indeed.
