ATLAS O diesels
Posted by tmcc man on Sunday, December 4, 2005 4:01 PM
The question is, will atlas O engines designated "O36" work on O31 curves?

david, [#welcome] to the forum. I want to know because I love the atlas level of detail, and I have the tmcc system by lionel, so it is all compatible. You will learn a lot here on this forum, as I did, even though I had previous experience in O gauge.

I have an Atlas GP-35 that was designated 036. The smallest mainline curve I have is 042 but I have some 031 switches and curves that make up a track configuration called a wye. I built it this way because of space constraints. I simply ran my Atlas GP-35 through it one day and the engine made it without any problems.

thanks overall,
I am interested in either the GP35, the RS1, or the GP9. I would get the GP35 in the READING roadname, the RS1 in Black River & Western (happens to be a shortline in NJ that I have seen and photographed) and the GP9 in B&O

Sorry to say but my SD-35 won't handle the 031 curves on my ceiling/wall mounted track. Maybe it's the 6 wheel vs 4 wheel truck thing ?

Dave how much space do you have. I will suggest using the widest curves possible, so your engines look good. In order for us to help you, give us some information

Cool , If you would imagine a ( L ) shaped layout, take a pin,,from left to right go 14ft long that is 4ft wide.at the right end go left 4ft then come back up 4ft thats it. The totle right side is 14ft long then go left will be a totle of 10ft then come back up the bother side a totle of 8 gives me a 14 x 10 x 8, all of witch will be 4ft wide. the 14fter is 4ftw= the 10fter is 4ftw and the other side will be 4ftw. I hope that makes some sence.

I will have to read that a couple of times. My idea is that you look in a Classic Toy Trains back issue, because there is a layout there that I think you would like to build. The issue is September, 2005. See if you can find one at your local Hobby Shop.

Atlas GP 60's and GP 35's can run through 031 switches and curves. I have atlas dash 8's and they have a problem going through 031 switches. i think this is due to the length of the engine. If you notice all atlas engines specify 036 curves. This is probably because they sell 036 curves and switches. The atlas dash 8's go through 036 curves ok but I like to run them through 054.
