How to apply Plasticville decals?
Posted by KeithL on Monday, November 14, 2005 8:24 PM
The current-production Plasticville O Scale Two-Story Split Level House comes with decals for "curtains" behind the windows. The decals come on what appears to be a cardboard backing. There is a separate piece of clear acetate the same size as the cardboard backing that sits loosely on top of the decals. The instructions state and show to apply the curtain decals to the insides of the windows. However, they do not explain or show HOW to apply the decals. Do the decals come off the cardboard backing? If so, how? What is the clear acetate for? Do the decals transfer somehow to the acetate? If so, how? How do the decals adhere to the insides of the windows? Can anyone please help?

The decals most likely are stickers that peel off the cardboard backing and then placed sticky side down onto the clear acetate. All my current-production Plasticville decals are this way. Once you place the curtain sticker on the acetate, cut them larger than the window opening and adhere them to the structure walls with some scotch tape. Make sure the tape isn't visible through the acetate "window".

Jim,

If the decals are stickers that peel off the cardboard backing, what's the trick to getting them off? I don't see any way to separate them from the backing. (Maybe my eyes aren't good enough!)

Thanks.

They should have a die cut around them, Keith. Bending the backer board slightly should make the seam separate and you can peel it from there. I just bought the Plasticville Roadside Stand and this was how that set's stickers worked. Without seeing yours, I can't give a definitive answer. You may have to trim them with a hobby knife. Thay may also be designed to be a seperate image that you slide the acetate over. Does the curtain art contain art for the windows/interiors, or just the curtains?

Jim, the decals are just for the curtains for the press-in windows and for the windows in the two doors. I also have the current-production produce stand, and the graphics for that are, as you say, stickers; they're totally unlike the decals for the curtains for the split level house.
