Do Air Whistles wear out??
Posted by SchemerBob on Friday, November 4, 2005 9:26 PM
I just purchased a train set that came with a steam locomotive with an air whistle. Mine is working fine without flaws. But, I was just wondering, do the air whistles wear out or do they always work? If they can break, can you repair them? Just curious.

The older ones needed a drop of oil every once in a while and new brushes every once in a great while. Newer ones have maintenance free can motors. You probably won't run the engine enough to wear out the main can motor, much less the one that powers the whistle. It can happen, but it's extremely unlikely.
