I do not have a favorite beer train, however I do have a few favorite beer cars. Weaver made a couple different Curve Beer cars and (2) different Altoona lager Beer cars. I also liked there (3) DuBois Budweiser Beer cars and their Genny Lite Beer car. Hope everyone has a great Sunday.

My favourites are the tinplate beer reefers made by Bing back in the 1910's and 20's. They had very impressive lithography on them! They were offered in 4 and 8-wheel versions in O gauge and gauge 1. While they were being manufactured, prohibition came into effect and Bing was stuck with all these beer cars. They actually were allowed to sell them, though. However, there was a catch: they could not have the word "beer" anywhere on them. The solution to this problem was to simply paint the word out. Today, you find many of these cars with thin black lines painted on them, blocking out the "offensive" lettering. Of course, giant, colourful logos of breweries on the sides certainly left no question as the what these cars would be hauling! You have to laugh looking at a car with "Schlitz" proudly emblazoned on it and then in the lower corner having "---------------- that made Milwaukee famous."

I have a four-wheel ETS boxcar for "Budvar", which is a blend of "Budejovice" and "pivovar". "Pivovar" means "brewery" in Czech; and Budejovice is the town that the Germans call "Budweis". So this is a Budweiser car--Budweiser is pivo (beer) that comes from Budejovice. You may imagine that the Czechs are furious at Anheuser-Busch for using the name.

I also have a Lionel 5704 Budweiser reefer, which is the same green color with white lettering as the Czech car. I sometimes run them together; but it is a nuisance to tie the incompatible couplers together.

Don't think they have a car for my favorite beer. "St. Pauli Girl" I can't say I've seen any Euro cars lettered for them either. (They'd all be empty cars! [:P])

I have a beer train of asst. reefers 2 Iron City, 2 Old Heidelberg, 1 Duquesene, 1 Altoona Curve, 1 Dubois Budwiser, 1 Edelwise, 1 American Beer, 1 Black Label, and 1 Yuengling. These cars are made by Weaver and MTH. They are best pulled by a MTH Berkshire or a Weaver UB25.
